Popular Mountain Resort in Northern Thailand

After a 2 ½-year hiatus, I returned to Pai in northern Thailand this past November. It is still pockets of international tourists ‘hippyish’ which I visited in 2005, but now it’s becoming increasingly popular and thus become a little bigger and noisier. Many new guesthouses have restaurants and hotels (although the hotel is small) and gardens sprout – including upscale Pai River Corner Resort and The Sanctuary, a chic and trendy vegetarian and seafood restaurant overlooking the river Pai. More importantly, there is an increasing number of tourists vacationing in Pai Thailand. I understand that this increase in domestic visitors is the main result of the promotion of tourism, Pai Thailand documentary featured on major TV channels. Once again, I live in Pairadise located approximately 1000 meters from the center of Pai. Still a beautiful place – since the last time I was there they added some new luxury bungalows. The rooms are simply furnished but well designed. Price at 600 baht per night and up, Pairadise is an excellent value and a higher end of budget accommodation in Pai.

My visit to Pai coincided with colorful Loy Krathong, popular harvest festival celebrated throughout Thailand in mid-November. For a small town, Pai had a great party time – the parade was very good. There are parades, colorful flowers full of floats, fireworks and dancing in the street by people younger accompanied by Thai pop music a bit loud. Needless to say, I was quite impressed with the celebration.

Riviera Resort – And this is even smaller, with only about 60 rooms. However, the 60-room resort is not bad for what it offers, it’s not meant to be the top dog with the other two, this is really only for people who are looking for something super casual, very cheap and very beautiful.

It probably would be better if you want to go somewhere by yourself or even with children. The other two are great if you want to do business or go with a group of friends or a group of people who are business partners. The place is nice but I think it was a very nice atmosphere.
